I have been following several blogs lately that are talking about and showing free motion quilting. One is Leah Day at http://freemotionquilting.blogspot.com/ She is showing a new design a day and it has been very helpful. So I have been practicing. I started on a plastic sheet cut from some product packaging with a dry erase pen. Next I went onto my machine and tried there using scraps left over from other projects. Now I am going though my pile of orphan blocks and working on them. They are becoming potholders when I finish with them. They may become Gifts because I don't have that many pots. I have been happy with my progress even enough to try a small baby quilt. I have found that I do not have to put my feed dogs down. Just set the stitch length to zero. I do use a darning foot.
Once you start I am finding ideas for patterns every where. This next one is from a jewelry ad.
I have a pair of groves that have the rubber grippers that help a lot to move the fabric around. I have to laugh when I put them on, they must be shooting gloves because they have camo design fabric. They are stretchy and of a very light fabric. I found them at the Ymca thrift store for $.50 a pair. What a bargain.
Not so much sewing today, I worked then shoveled snow. We have worn out one snow shovel and I tried to buy another but they were sold out except wimpy ones. Next year I will have to look for one before the first snow.
This one of the views out of my sewing room. You can see I am upstairs on the third level of the house. This is looking out onto the deck off the dining room. The deck doubles as our carport. This is one of the best things we added when we moved in.
This view is out the side window that overlooks the driveway. Notice the tree right in front of the window. It is a former Christmas tree that we dug ourselves at a local nursery. It was about 4 feet tall then, now it is at least 16 feet. It has grown about a foot a year.
This out the front door. Looks like I should fix the flags they are getting blown about today. Who needs to go to Vancouver for the Olympics, we have a bobsled course on our front sidewalk, though it might be an abrupt stop at the end. More snow is expected here but not as much as the DC area.
This is a picture of the yard just beyond the carport. the chair will be lost if this keeps up.
